The (line) is an element of art that is defined by a point that moves through space. Lines can be vertical, horizontal, diagonal or curved. They can be any width or texture. And can be continuous, implicit or broken. In addition, there are different types of lines, with the exception of the lines mentioned above. You can have z.B. a line that is horizontal and zigzag, or a line that is vertical and zigzag. Different lines create different moods, it all depends on the mood you use line to create. Some designs use negative space to create interesting visual effects. Thus, the famous logo of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) uses the confusion between positive form and negative space to create the image of a panda. The visual design elements form the basic elements of a product. While as visual designers, we don`t really need to look carefully at every element of our daily work, the principles of design – how to assemble elements to optimally create pages and application screens – play a crucial role in what we do.
Learning how to achieve unity, form, hierarchy, balance, contrast, scale, dominance and resemblance, will be extremely useful when working in visual design. Balance can be achieved by symmetry in design (z.B. with a website with text and centralized images). But you can also achieve a balance without symmetry – it is perhaps not surprising that this is called an asymmetrical balance. We achieve an asymmetrical balance if we put in place elements of different sizes to create the unit. We can imagine a design center and distribute the elements in a way that creates a balance. Color is the result of light, which is reflected from an object to our eyes. [6] The color that our eyes perceive is determined by the pigment of the object itself.
[6] Color theory and color wheel are often mentioned when studying color combinations in visual design. [7] Colour is often seen as an important element of design, as it is a universal language that represents the countless possibilities of visual communication. [8] According to Alex White, author of The Elements of Graphic Design, the realization of the visual unit is a primary objective of graphic design. If all elements match, a design is considered unified. No part is considered more important than the design. A good balance between unity and diversity is necessary to avoid a chaotic or inanimate design. [10] Dominance can be established, among other things, by positioning, shape and colour. Unity is linked to creating a sense of harmony between all the elements of a page. A page with elements arranged visually or conceptually together will likely create a sense of unity.
„The best designers sometimes disregard the principles of design. However, when they do, there are usually some compensations that are obtained at the expense of the violation. If you`re not sure you`re going to do it, it`s best to stick to the principles. [1] When we design websites, we can use a grid to achieve a sense of unity, because the elements organized in a grid follow an orderly layout. However, we need to make some change in our work to find a balance between boring design and chaotic design. Planning a coherent and similar design is an important aspect of a designer`s work to make the centre of gravity visible. Too much resemblance is boring, but without resemblance, the important elements will not exist and an image without contrast is without incident, so the key is to find the balance between similarity and contrast. [10] The WWF logo previously shown is an example of how to use the principle of form to create interesting designs.
