The working conditions of the staff of the University of Luxembourg are governed by a collective agreement after the institution and the OGBL union have concluded their first agreement. The agreement does not apply to executives, department heads, student assistants or interns. The new remuneration system will be in place from 1 January 2020 and the agreement will come into force retroactively from July 2018 for a period of three years. In addition to our efforts to reduce this percentage as quickly as possible through the rapid implementation of CFCs, the OGBL calls for reform of collective bargaining legislation that facilitates the introduction of new CBAs, particularly in sectors with many small and medium-sized enterprises, and strengthens the capacity of unions to act. Frédéric Krier also welcomed the conclusion of the first collective agreement for all higher education employees. „Negotiations have resulted in agreement on a number of improvements from the 2015 agreement and a new transparent pay system based on service time. The new compensation system will be in place from 1 January 2020. The signatory parties will work closely together to ensure that workers are categorized into the new categories under ideal conditions.

The University of Luxembourg and the OGBL union yesterday signed the first collective agreement for university employees. There are enough current examples to demonstrate the ability of the OGBL to achieve results. Let us remember in particular the good agreements signed after the unions in the health and social services sectors, but also in the construction sector or when a collective agreement was introduced at the University of Luxembourg.
